Recipes for Steve's birthdy week
Steve's Mac and cheese with Bacon
- 1 lb medium shells
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 2 cups of milk
- 4 cups heavy cream
- 6 cups sharp cheddar cheese
- 4 tbsp butter
- 1 lb bacon - save some of the grease for milk mixture
- breadcrumbs for topping
Pre-heat oven to 350
- boil water with garlic and pinch of salt, add pasta and cook almost completely, while waiting for pasta, grate cheese, and cook bacon until almost cooked through. Add, milk, cream, butter and a little of the reserved bacon fat and microwave until the butter is melted. Layer pasta, cheese and bacon in 9x13 pan, pour milk mixture over the top, lightly cover with bread crumbs, cover with foil, bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Remove foil and cook for an additional 10 minutes or until bubbly. Remove from oven and let stand for 10 minutes for everything to set.
Angel food cake:
I got the recipe from Alton Brown - you can search for it on the internet, it was really good.
Crepes:
The crepe recipe is from Julia child, you can find it on the internet, - key things to remember is to make sure you let the mixture set in the fridge for at least a half hour before making, make sure your pan is hot before adding the first crepe, and you will always loose the first one to the pan. Have patience, crepes are a labor of love.
Fake banana's foster filling:
- 4 bananas sliced
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 stick of butter
melt butter and sugar in pot until bubbly, add bananas, turn the heat to low and let them slowly bubble
Savory filling:
- 1/2 pound mushrooms sliced
- 2 zucchini sliced
- 1/4 yellow onion sliced
- 6 asparagus spears (if in season) sliced
- 3 tpbs butter or olive oil
melt butter and onion, until onion is translucent, add veggies and sautee until done, add a pinch of salt for flavor
